Garden Gym, Stamford

Case Study Description

This customer came to us with ideas for a garden room project and sent us a rough pencil sketch of what they had in mind.

We always try to advise opting for a footprint size that is compatible with the SIP panels, as this helps to reduce cuts and wastage, the nearest compatible size being 7.93m x 4.88m.

Once confirmed they were happy with the recommended footprint size, we used SketchUp to create them a bespoke 3D design, to take a look over and visualise their future garden room.

Due to the size of this studio, we used 122mm thickness SIPs for the roof and walls, as this gives more structural support. The customer also chose to incorporate a 300mm front overhang on their design.

This studio did require planning permission from the local authority, so once the customer received consent, they made a few more amendments to their 3D design, and were then ready to place their order with us, SimplySIPs.

As this studio was going to be used as a gym with heavy equipment, it was recommended not to use SIPs panels for the floor, to avoid the risk of any movement and flexing. This meant we supplied a walls and roof only (No Floor) SIPs Kit, and the customer constructed their own insulated timber subframe, which sat on concrete plinths.

Once the SIPs Kit had been confirmed, engineered, manufactured and delivered, the customer was able to begin their build!

For reference, this SIPs Kit included the following:

> All SIP panels cut and ready to construct – This design consisted of 3.0m x 1.2m x 122mm SIP Panels and 2.44m x 1.22m x 122mm SIP Panels for the Walls and 2.44m x 610mm x 122mm Roof SIP Panels for the Roof.

> All associated jointing splines and timbers – Jointing Splines for 122mm SIPs (2.34m Long)

> All four opening reveals cut, and timber lined, ready to install the doors and windows.

> Full assembly instructions on how to constuct the SIPs Kit.

This customer also chose to order our fixing kit, which they used to construct SIPs kit, as well as the external breathable wrap and battens, from our list of optional extras.

This studio was to be divided into two seperate rooms, so we recommended that it is more cost effective to fit a simple stud wall within the SIPs Kit, as internal walls do not necessarily need to be insulated.

Once the SIPs kit has been built to shell finish, it is over to the customer to complete the build, with their choice of doors, windows, internal finishes and cladding (we do not supply these).

All in all, we think this is a fantastic, birght and spacious gym studio, which anyone would be proud to have in their garden. At almost 39sqm, it provides a lot of useable space for gym equipment and storage, perfect for late night gym sessions in the winter or making the most out of the garden whilst working out in the summer!
