In June 2020. we were approached by a customer who was looking to completely renovate their garden, whilst spending more time at home as a result of the UK being in lockdown from the Coronavirus.
They had no previous experience with SIPs panels, other than watching a few YouTube videos to find out a bit more information about them, so as always, we were happy to help talk them through the whole process and answer any questions they may have.
Initially, we began by discussing all the ideas they had in mind, in terms of footprint sizes, how many openings they would like, what size and what position they would like these openings, as well as garden room foundations, etc.
After multiple amendments to their 3D design, and once they had received their quotation, the customer was now in a position to place their order with SimplySIPs.
What was included in this SIPs Kit?
For reference, this SIPs kit included the following:
- All SIP Panels cut and ready to construct – This design consisted of 2.44m x 1.22m x 97mm SIP Panels for the Floor and 2.44m x 1.22m x 122mm SIP Panels for the Walls and Roof.
- All associated jointing splines and timbers – Both Jointing Splines for 97mm SIPs (2.44m Long) and Jointing Splines for 122mm SIPs (2.34m Long).
- Both opening reveals cut, and timber lined, ready to install the doors and windows.
- Full assembly instructions on how to constuct the SIPs Kit.
At the time the order was placed, we were extremely busy with an influx of orders due to lockdown and people working from home wanting offices, however we managed to get this studio engineered, manufactured and delivered ahead of schedule. It was then time for the build to commence!
The build was complete with the customers choice of cladding (we do not supply this) – They chose to use cedral lap weatherboard cladding on the rear of the build and western red cedar on the rest of the building. Externally, the studio was then finished off by fitting the EPDM rubber roof membrane.
In terms of the internal finishes; a vapour membrane is fitted to the walls with battens – This is where electrics can be hidden before finishing with plasterboard and decorating however they wish.
This customer planned to divide their studio into two seperate rooms, so we suggested that it would be much more cost effective to fit a simple stud wall after constructing the SIPs kit, as opposed to using SIP Panels for the internal wall, as this doesn’t necessarily need to be insulated.
