Internal Finishes

Internal Finishes

Internal finishes of your garden studio are not only important for protecting the SIPs Panels and hiding cables, but they add a unique element to your garden building, allowing you to create a space that is personal to you; Whether that be a gym, an office, a pub, the ideas are endless!

Unfortunately, we do not supply any internal finishes as part of our SIPs Kits, however we are able to recommend how you would go about finishing your SIPs studio, once you have constructed it to shell finish.

Given that our SIPs kits consist of floor, walls and roof panels, thus creating a fully insulated box, we also do not supply internal walls, as it is much more cost effective to fit simple stud walls as your garden room will already be fully insulated.

The steps to finishing the internals of your garden room are as follows:

1. Vapour Membrane/Barrier

This must be fitted to the floor, walls and ceiling of your SIPs studio, ensuring you tape any gaps, so that it is completely covered. This will prevent any natural moisture from your garden room getting into the SIPs panels, which overtime could pose a risk of mould or even rotting of the OSB and timber.

2. Timber Battens

You will need to fit vertical timber battens to the inside of your SIPs walls, which can create a service void for electric cables to be hidden. This creates a seamless and safe finish to the interior of your garden room.

Please note, it is not possible to run electric cabling inside the SIPs Panels. This is because the grey sheathing on the cable will react with the EPS insulation within the SIP Panel. Any cable that passes through the floor, walls or roof SIP panels, should be protected using a plastic watser pipe (plumbers’ pipe).

3. Plasterboard

The interior walls and ceiling can then be boarded with plasterboard and skimmed to finish, leaving you with a blank canvas to create the garden room of your dreams!

4. Wall and Ceiling Finishes

Common choices include paint, wallpaper, panelling, cladding and many more options. How you choose to finish your garden room may depend on what your budget is, what the purpose of your garden room is, and what type of aesthetic you’re looking to achieve.

5. Flooring

When it comes to flooring, this can completely transform the feel of your garden room. You will need to ensure there is an underlay between the SIPs panels and your choice of flooring. A wide variety of options include laminate, tiles, carpet, vinyl, hardwood flooring… there are many to choose from!

Since we do not supply any of the above, we don’t often get to see the final results inside our customers garden rooms, so if you have ever had a SIPs kit from us, please do send us some photo’s or tag us on our socials!
