Case Study Description

This customer came to us in February 2024, looking to purchase one of our SIPs kits to use as a garden studio.

After some back and forth deciding between a 4.8m x 3m or 4.2m x 3m SIPs kit, they decided to go with a 4.8m x 3m studio to make the most use out of their space. Their bespoke 3D design was then finalised, ready to proceed with engineering and manufacturing.

As they were using ground screws as their foundation type, we sent over a pin detail showing the amounts and locations of ground screws required for their footprint size. These were then installed as per our supplied drawing. We recommend using 100mm flathead screws, a minimum of 50mm above ground level.

In March 2024, we then delivered the SIPs Kit, so it was onto building it!

I have to say I’ve been extremely impressed dealing with Simply SIPS! You’ve all been so helpful throughout the design and ordering stage, and Tony was excellent when making the delivery this morning, giving me loads of excellent advice. I’d read many recommendations on various forums, and I have to say my experience really has lived up to your excellent reputation.

This SIPs kit included the following:

> All SIPs Panels cut and ready to construct – This design consists of 3.0m x 1.2m x 97mm SIP Panels for the Floor, 2.44m x 1.22m x 122mm SIP Panels for the Walls and 3.0m x 1.2m x 122mm SIPs Panels for the Roof.

> All associated jointing splines and timbers – Jointing Splines for 97mm SIPs (2.44m long) and Jointing Splines for 122mm SIPs (2.34m long).

> All opening reveals cut, and timber lined, ready to install the doors and windows.

Our SIPs kit also includes a timber subframe, which is assembled first, the SIPs floor we supply then fits directly into the frame.

The rest of the SIPs wall panels and roof are then assembled.

This customer also chose to order our fixing kit, EPDM rubber roof membrane and breathable membrane wrap and batten, from our list of optional extras.

Internally, the wall panels need protecting from moisture using a vapour membrane, before battening to produce a service void (for electrics) and then finishing with plasterboard.

Externally, once the wrap and battens have been fitted, the customer finished off with their choice of cladding and the EPDM rubber roof membrane.

Overall, the studio is a great use of space, and the customer is delighted with the end result, just as we are! The final step is to move all their art supplies into the space, and after a long wait, they finally have a space to enjoy their hobby.
